This song is a long-lost, forgotten gem that I had found digging through old Ableton files. It would be ill-equipped of me to dissect this song on her behalf.
One thing I'll put out there is my reaction upon hearing the song, and why I felt like this piece in particular was worth publishing.
Von Samantha sounds like the fading memory of a person you loved deeply. You try to recall, but there's watercolor paint in place of hard lines.
The cover of this track is a portrait of Sophie Huntington, sketched by her husband in 1853. Looking through the Smithsonian Archives, I had come upon her haunting, enigmatic expression. It stopped me. I couldn't help but look through her.
What was she thinking?
What a woman - to wear such solemnity.
Was she candid? There is no pose more flattering.
I was having such a strange connection with Sophie. Except, I wasn't really. I was feeling a connection with Sophie's husband's sketched representation of her.
Unfortunately, you will not find much information elsewhere on Mrs. Huntington. Her husband has his own Wikipedia article and Smithsonian shrine. Sophie's history, however, is lost to time.
Kind of like my memories that form while listening to this song. Ethereal moments whose accuracies are tethered to my representation of them. I'll never know how transparent they really are.
Thank you for listening,
Sorry for Interrupting
